With the impacts of climate change, food insecurity has taken the center stage with many community members impacted negatively. With an effort to address this, our organization set up a Community and Youth Agricultural Resource Center Program (CARC) – climate smart farm in January 2020 with the aim of addressing food insecurity in the area and inspiring more people to establish similar projects and create employment for youth and women. This enables the community members to sustainably operate community-based climate smart farms. This project is located in Kiliti village, Ramula Sub-location, Ombeyi area in Muhoroni sub-county. Our CARC project has continued to not only offer hands-on training to women and youth, but also provide employment to local women and youth besides supplying fresh vegetables to locals at affordable prices. The project currently employs 6 women and 2 men (youth). Our farming project has already inspired two groups which has established similar projects and are continuing to grow and supply vegetables to the local market. This has reduced the cost and uncertainties of doing business among some women since they do not now travel long distances in search of vegetables. This has greatly help in the face of COVID-19 where movement is restricted and market centers closed.
